By Steve Mainucci - Beatles Examiner Forty-eight years ago today, on Oct. 5, 1962, the Beatles' first Parlophone Records single, "Love Me Do," was released. It wasn't the strongest song, but it proved to be the start of a musical phenomenon. But it didn't come without a bit of difficulty. The Beatles had to record the song three times in 1962: first on June 6 with Pete Best (issued on "Anthology 1"), then on Sept. 4 with Ringo Starr. But producer Sir George Martin didn't like Ringo's work on the track and insisted it be re-recorded with a studio drummer, Andy White, with Ringo relegated to tamborine, which it was on Sept. 11. Ringo's version was initially released on the UK single, but it was later removed and the Andy White version was substituted. That was also the version released in the States. Both Ringo and Andy White's version were issued together on a 12 inch single in 1982.
