Growing Up With The Beatles In The Sixties

Growing Up With The Beatles In The Sixties

by Dr. Marc

Going to a movie theater and screaming girls through the entire movie.

Watching TV and screaming sisters during the entire performance.

Friends going to a concert and when I asked about it all I could get are blank stares.

I’m talking about A Hard Days Night & Help, The Ed Sullivan Show and the Beatles in Concert.

Listening to the radio where it was a contest to see which station got to play a new Beatles song first and radio stations playing other stations copies.

Bootlegs of the Beatles songs in the sixties which was a big thing then.

The Paul is dead hoax which was a radio special with all the clues.

A big event to watch a new Beatles single on Ed Sullivan or the Smothers Brothers show.

A walk on by George Harrison on the Smothers Brothers show.

This is what it was like growing up with the Beatles in the 60's.

Fast forward to the late 70's.

One of my cousins temporarily lived in New York City. He was walking down the street and walking toward him was John and Yoko.
While they were very nice, My cousin who was never at a loss for words was tongue tied & couldn’t say a thing.

I so remember going to see A Hard Day's Night, it was awesome, the screaming was there of course. And myself along with 2 of my best friends screamed right along with them, those were the good old days!

Here is a story about when I saw the movie:
my two girlfriends and I went to see "A Hard Day's Night". We had bought the tickets a couple of weeks before the movie came out. They gave us badges to wear stating that we had our ticket did you? My mother took us to the theater and told us she would be there waiting when we got out.
We started to watch the movie and yes girls were screaming.....and stupid us were too. It was so exciting to see them! We didn't leave after the movie was over like we were suppose to, we stayed and watched it a second time, by the time we got out my mother was so mad at us! In Florida we have bad thunderstorms and the sky looked real wicked and she hated to drive in the rain let alone a storm......I was grounded for a week from listening to the Beatles...what a hard and awful week!
