I MCed a concert for the group Yesterday. They were so much fun.

In 1966, I was fortunate enough to see the Beatles in Memphis, Tennessee at the Mid South Coliseum. This was just after John Lennon made the statement they were more popular than Jesus. At the stadium they had some people, that were burning albums and having a bon fire during the concert. I happened to go to the evening show and someone through a cherry bomb while they were performing. John actually was not comfortable with all that was happening after his statement. They all looked at each other to make sure that they had not been hurt or shot at. You could see John had been frightened for they had people threatened their lives. It was their last tour as the Beatles.
My parents had planned a vacation to Miami, Florida and I had refused to go on vacation with them for I had secretly bought tickets to the concert. I was fortunate that my parents decided to let me go to the concert and leave the next day. They actually rescheduled our vacation for me to see the Beatles. I had two other girlfriends with me that went to the concert with me and it was one of the best concerts I had ever been to, except for Macca who I have had the pleasure to see three times since that time. One time was with Wings. I also was able to see Ringo 4 times. Only if I could have seen John and George before John was murdered and George passed away.
I can still see them in pin striped suits with burgundy shirts. During the song "Yesterday" it was quiet and my two girlfriends and I yelled out PAULLLLLLLLLLLL and he waved back to us. I will never forget that moment. I almost went hysterical for he is my favorite Beatle. John sang to his heart content, Paul glistened with tiny droplets of sweat, George had much thicker hair than I thought he had and Ringo played with such enthusiasm.

I was too young to drive, so my Mom sat in the car during the concert and saw all of the bon fires and made her uncomfortable. The back up bands were the Circle who sang "Red Rubber Ball and Bobby Hebb who sang "Sunny". It was an awesome concert that I will never forget. For those who have seen the Beatles, write and let me know about your concert. I hope Paul will have another tour in the next couple of years for I want to see him again and again. Hope he come to Miami or somewhere in Florida. Thanks for reading my story, for I love them so much. Their music will live on for years to come.
By the way, I have Woody's CD collection which is awesome. It has material that I had not ever heard before and I listen to it about every three months in my car on the way to work. I work 65 miles from Key Largo, in Miami, and I find something new every time I listen to it. His website is the best and he is a true Beatle fan as I am and will always be. Again thanks for listening to this story. At another time I will tell you about the other concerts I went to for Paul and Ringo. Have a great week-end Beatle fans.

I was there.

Mitzi, I, too, was at that Memphis concert. Like you, my parents dropped me off and picked me up. I was 14 at the time. I remember Circle singing "Red Rubber Ball". I also remember they were collecting cameras as you went in so you couldn't take pictures, which happened anyway. So I can now say that I saw the Beatles and Elvis (who I saw in Vegas in the early 70s). Not too many can say that.

Mitzi,
First of all, thank you for the kind words about my radio series (Pop Go the Beatles) and this website. Your support of my "little Beatles projects" has always been welcome and received gratefully.
Secondly, I am SOOO jealous of you. I never got to see our boys live, I was only ten when they played at Shea. My next door neighbor went and rubbed it in my nose constantly, especially since he was really a Stones fan.
I hope meet you on our upcoming Beatles cruise...oops did I let something slip.
Stay tuned for all the details.

Woody
