Linda McCartney Books

When I write a page for my website I always like to make sure I know what I’m talking about. So for the books section I simply go to Amazon.com and to track down all the books that someone has written. Sometimes I’m little surprised at what I find. As an example, I found out that May Pang had written a third book about John that I was unaware of. I discovered that Mark Lewisohn had written a book about Benny Hill and one about Old Time TV Comedy Shows. I was a little more than surprised to find out that Linda had published Seven cookbooks and that there had been Eight books published with her photos in them. There also had been a book written about her by Danny Fields in 2000. I quickly got myself a copy of the book called “Linda McCartney: A Portrait ” and read it.

Now for the big surprise, in this book is a picture of Nat Weiss and the whole story of how he was Linda’s friend and John and Paul (George too) had stayed in his New York City apartment in 1968 while they announced for formation of Apple Corp on the Johnny Carson show (BTW…somehow Johnny got the night off and the boys were stuck with co-host Joe Garijiola).

I found this to be very interesting because just one month ago Richard Adler, who is a friend and the winner of my Facebook Beatles Trivia Contest, posted the story with the first picture of Nat Weiss’ door which was signed by John, Paul and George in our Share Your Beatles Story section. Special thank to Richard for allowing us to be the first website anywhere to post those pictures.

So, what I’m going to do on this Linda McCartney page is give you the listing of the books she has written and had published by her and about her. I’ll review the photo books I own and “Linda McCartney: A Portrait”, which due to the unique connection we at www.the-Beatles-History.com have with Nat Weiss, I found fascinating. Even without this unique connection I would have enjoyed this book. It’s filled with great celebrity stories and behind the scenes action of the Swinging Sixties life in the hippest city in the world, New York. If you can track down a copy I highly recommend you read this book.

Now when it comes to Linda’s Cookbooks, I am not the correct person to do the reviews. What I would like to do is ask my readers who have used Linda’s cookbooks to review any of her cookbooks and send them into us here at info@the-beatles-history.com and we’ll be happy to include them on this page.

For now I’ll start by listing the Cookbooks.

Linda's Kitchen: Simple and Inspiring Recipes for Meatless Meals by Linda McCartney- Jul 5, 2001- Publisher Brown, Little

And now for her chronological list of photograph books, which by the way are simply incredible. Her shots of Rock Stars from the Sixties from her first two books are incredibly moving as she manages to capture her subjects in a very relaxed and casual atmosphere. Check out her pictures of Hendrix, the Who, Traffic, Otis Redding or the Grateful Dead and you’ll see what I mean.
