Linda McCartney Photographs

Linda McCartney was an established professional photographer when she met Paul McCartney. She had taken exceptional pictures of most of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s biggest names. Three books of her pictures have published and I’ll try to give you a nice sampling of her work. But first here is Paul and Linda in their own words on her photography, both excerpted come from the introductory pages of her book “Linda McCartney’s: Sixties Portrait of an Era” first published in Great Britain in 1992.

Paul: “I first met her during the time these photographs were being taken. Linda Eastman…New York photographer…Of course I’m biased, but I think she has the definitive collection of Sixties rock ‘n’ roll pictures. She captures the period, with an intimacy that is impossible to ignore. Having experienced her lens I know that she knows when to click. Not just before or after a special moment, but right on it.”

Linda: “I would have been a photographer anyway, taking black and white pictures of things that interested me, but in 1966 I started photographing rock and roll groups, and I found I could make a living from it. It gave me the independence I needed and it provided me with an exciting life.  Although I didn’t make a fortune, it enabled me to pay my rent, buy food and look after my little daughter. What more could a young girl want?”
